introduction
  The cannonball mangrove is an extremely fascinating kind of mangrove that has enormous seeds and even bigger fruit. Once the fruit is totally/completely ripe, it falls onto the earth making a loud band which can be heard at large distances. Hereby the fruit breaks open and about 12-18 individual seeds, usually each the size of a fist scatter themselves around the mother tree.

  This type of mangrove is usually found by rivers in the topics where there are low to no levels of salinity.

  Spreading roots that spread themselves around the tree.

  The leaves are oval-shaped and the stalks are quite thick with a special mechanism that enable them to turn themselves towards the sun and away from the sun.

  This type of mangrove develops small pink-colored blossoms.

fruits
  Here we have a large, round fruit that can contain 12-18 seeds. When traveling in a region where this type of mangrove is found and it happens to be the time when the fruit falls to the ground one should be careful, since one could theoretically, if it should fall directly onto one’s head, die. This usually happens between the beginning of June to the end of September.

seeds
  The seeds are brown and usually have 2 flat surfaces and a round one, with which it forms the typically cannonball shaped seeds. These seeds are often the size of an adult human’s fist. The seed usually has an appendix that is 2-4cm long and has a diameter of 2cm. The roots and the young shoot grow out of the appendix.

  The trunk is usually a mixture of the following colors: white – pink -- orange

soil
  This type of mangrove prefers slightly less marshy grounds than the Rhizophora types.

  Height: up to 25 meters
Temperature: 20 – 40° Celsius
Ideal growing conditions: 50° C; up to 90% humidity; 70-90% sunlight
Grows in nature, unlike many kinds of mangroves not directly at the ocean.
