Familie: Rhizophoraceae
Bruguiera parviflora
Small-Leafed Orange Mangrove
the plant can be grown in an aquarium, terrarim or pot
tolerates fresh water/ brackish water /salt water
it filters the water (nitrates and phosphates) – whereby it improves the quality of the water
average seed size is 20 cm
also grows very well in pots (requires sand & high humidity)
maximum height 25 meters
not winter proof
This type of mangrove tree is easy to recognize since it sticks out of a forest of mangrove trees due to its beautiful yellow color. They are delicate tall trees that reach a height of up to 25 meters.
This type of mangrove usually appears close to Rhizophora apiculata and Bruguiera gymnorrhiza in rivers and tropical forests where a higher level of salinity is not unusual.
This type of mangrove tree develops so-called knee-roots just like all Bruguiera Gymnorrhiza. The name comes from the fact that these roots can reach the knees of full-grown adults. The roots wriggle the ground.
The leaves are comparatively small, 5 to 10 cm long and yellow-green just like the blossoms. They appear, as is often the case with mangrove trees, in bunches at the end of the branches, since the old leaves with surplus salt are dropped.
This type of mangrove tree gets small yellow-green blossoms.
The seeds are very thin, about 5 mm and about 20 cm long. The seeds fit to the lengthy appearance of the tree. It is very common for the blossom to get stuck on the seed when it leaves its mother tree.
The color of the trunk is brown and the trunk itself is very rough.
This type of Mangrove prefers muddy grounds with little oxygen. Grows as well, however, in pure sandy beaches or hydroponics and the like.

Height: up to 25 meters
